Suggestions for Making the BriarPatch more Profitable

A really good idea could begin right here in this blog. Really good ideas always begin as something silly and out of touch because they break the pattern. They often come from a voice that is usually silent in an environment of listening and respect. Then another voice will build on that idea, and then another, each making it larger and wiser. Do your part and speak your thoughts and contribute to other thoughts and really great ideas will move into reality.

I think the success of BriarPatch truly depends on members feeling they are members.

I would like to see a display when I enter the coop with a suggested recipe for a healthy meal or treat and then have all of the ingredients offered at just above cost in the amounts I need to make it. That would be really fun for me and it would halp me feel I was part of a group that cared. Something like this would help me to look forward to coming by the coop and it would give me a positive attitude about my membership.

I would like to see times when the prices are marked down in the dining area. I imagine this would be during the slow hours. This wuld also bring more customers into the store during the slow hours increasing and evening out the demand.

Whenever I go into SPD I am struck with how much more efficient it is compared to the BriarPatch. At BP there are employees everywhere happy to chat and stand around. I'm glad for them but this is no way to run a profitable operation.

I really have a problem with being encouraged by the pricing structure in the buffet to choose meat because it costs as much as rice. This is contrary to every precept of health and sustainability and violates the mission statement. I suggest that there be a special "bargain meal" that is healthy and respectful of sustainability and offered at a lower price to encourage its purchase.

It isn't all about making a profit on the members, you know. If profit is still your bag then consider the savings in manpower and ingredient costs and the good will it will build when people begin to perceive the coop as being there for them rather than profit.

I love the idea of a recipe posted at the store to cooking at home at or near cost. The isle numbers for ingredients could be listed as well. They could even prepare it in the Deli that day for non-cookers and those who want to taste it before committing to the time and ingredients. This would be a lot of fun and could lead to other great ways to build community and sales.

I had left a comment about a month ago but it didn't work. I love these suggestions and would like to help make them work at the BriarPatch.
